I would fight to the death for a spot at a table with a seven person Spanish 101 study group at a community college.
After all, who wouldn't want a Community?
I have obsessed myself with comedy shows for far too long—but this one wants to make me cry. Many comedy shows appeal to the average depressed Joe because they're easy. Joe works a nine-to-five and after a long day he just wants to enter a world where everything is happy. Everything is happy when everything is a joke, but Joe lives in a world where everything is meaningul. Every action has a consequence instead of a laugh track. Every period of confusion must be figured out independently instead of through a magical epiphany. Every moment of sadness becomes a draining nightmare instead of being terminated with an inspirational speech. Joe's flipping out at this point.
Community has raw characters that would be a psychologist's dream to analyze, because each of them carry so much substance. Take Abed for instance, a man who screams at the sight of daylight savings, builds blanket forts (and starts literal wars over them), and co-hosts a late-night show with no cameras all in the name of comedy fun. Though, this quirky character turns out to be the wisest, most emotionally driven, and most sane member of the show all at once. Its charcter complexity is unlike any other comedy show I've seen. Because unlike others, these characters are an outstanding reflection of human nature.
I would fight to be part of this world written vulnerably, because as tv shows are becoming increasingly real, it seems as if our world is becoming more like something that belongs on television. I want to feel this heartfelt connection that I watch between an unlikely friendship of a senior citizen and a high school graduate. This indescribable bittersweet feeling of watching characters coping with unwanted change is something that isn't truly accessible in reality. Emotions are becoming untouchable. People are becoming numb, distracting themselves with superficial pleasentries and mindless tasks.
I want to be part of this Community that genuinely lives and creates something special out of something as simple as a spontaneous study group. Maybe Joe will watch this show one day and fight for it too. Maybe one day he'll look at himself in the mirror and say, "I see your value now".
Hmmmm………….
ReplyDeleteIs my love for you not enough? I can give you more love if that makes you feel like you’re in a better community since you don’t seem to value the community I have made with you :( Also why is the first recommended blog post the gremlin one ㅇㅅㅇ
Also you like this show tooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, what’s your favorite episode? Is it the coin one?
I also agree that the characterization of characters in Community is pretty well unmatched in modern TV. The writers did an amazing job making characters with believable motivations, hopes, and dreams. You really feel for the characters because many of them are as dimensional as people in the real world
